Who are you?

sPorcupine was telling me on the phone about a young person who was adjusting to her first week in college, which made me think of all the moves I've made in my life, and the fact that it's one thing to pack up china and sheets and furniture and then unpack them -- but it's quite another thing to pack up oneself and relocate. You go to a new place and it isn't just that you don't know people. Also, they don't know you and it takes a while before they do, even in close proximity. And you can't just stand up on a soapbox and yell, "Hey, everybody, let me tell you who I am." I even find myself self-conscious about those little bios that go with blogs.
So here's the question: Which (choose as many as you like, and add some) of the following would best explain who you are to a total stranger?
1. Your favorite music (i.e. singer, band, whatever)
2. The best book you've read this year
3. Your political persuasion
4. Your spiritual beliefs
5. Something you collect
6. A hobby
7. What you named your dog or cat
8. How important or unimportant money is to you
9. Places you've lived besides here
10. What you find funny
11. What teams you cheer for
12. What makes you mad
13. What you think about George W. Bush
14. The sorrows you have known
15. What you're impressed by
16. What you're not impressed by
17. What magazines you subscribe to
18. What your family is like
19. Where you live
20. What you watch on television

Comments:
20. Right now I am hooked on "Project Runway." The Weather Channel is still number 1! News channels, "The Waltons", "X-Files", and "Twilight Zone" marathons. Also, wish I could see some "Mr. Ed" reruns.

2: Best book - "Better Off" by Eric Brende, an MIT grad who, along with his wife, left the rat race for 18 months to live in a community where the simple life rules. The author tells about time spent living without electricity and other things we take for granted in everyday life and the closeness the couple developed with their neighbors who are described as being a cross between Amish and Mennonites.

Moonie -- I'm going to find you some Mr. Ed reruns!
Re weather, did you know that Max Mayfield, the cute white haired guy who knows all about hurricanes, is about to retire?
Do you like the live car chases. Tina and I do.
Princess - the book sounds interesting. I'm just starting "The Places in Between" which is about a guy who walks across Afghanistan. Maybe we can swap when I'm done.

1. Folk
2. It's probably not the best book I've read this year, but I most enjoyed reading an old book by Anne Rivers Siddons, COLONY. There's something to be said for escapism!
3. Progressive Democrat
4. Unitarian
5. Dolls
6. Arts and Crafts--especially quilting
7. Dogs: Princess, Lady, Ginger
Cat: Tigger, Thomas
8. Money means independence.
9. Tennessee, Georgia, Chicago, Indiana and Northern Kentucky.
10. British Sitcoms, The Daily Show
11. Not a sports fan
12. New Yorkers
13. Bull in a China Shop
14. Try not to dwell on them
15. Genuineness
16. Ostentation
17. National Geographic
18. Large and fun
19. Atlanta and Montezuma, Georgia
20. The Animal Planet, CNN

That was fun even if nobody ever reads it!

Hey, Young! I not only read it, I printed it out and then came back to the blog so I'd remember what the questions are. That was fun to read. I think you're exactly right about Dubya, and will be very relieved when he's out of the China shop for good.
My favorite escape reading is mysteries - not thrillers, but the more old-fashioned kind.
Right now, though, I'm trying to read "The Places In Between" which is a journalist's account of walking across Afghanistan. So far, I've fallen asleep four nights straight before making it to the third chapter. A lot of walking. A lot of details about boots and sand.
