Apostrophe Catastrophe
Kentucky has just released its new edition of the "Core Content for Assessment," which is a fairly good statement of what "students should know and be able to do." But I am very worried about the implications of the following fragment from the science section:
"Students will describe:
• the effect of the Suns’ energy on the Earth system."
I think the effect would be that we'd all be burned to a crisp.

I don't know if I'm just getting old and cranky, but I see that sort of thing more and more often. Perhaps we just move (and type) too fast in the computer age.

I believe I read somewhere that if the planet Jupiter had a little more spin to it, it might have 'turned on.'
Young at heart, I don't think you are getting old and cranky. I do think of all the words that can be used to describe today's culture sloppy could be in the top five.

I think that "apostrophe catastrophe" has a nice mantra sound. Please note that to make everyone happy, I am actually typing capital letters.:):)
