Tom Clancy?

The eleven-year-old boy is asking questions about Tom Clancy stories, apparently because Clancy inspired some video games. They kid reads very well, and is trying to figure out about being powerful and dangerous, and some mighty plots would probably delight him. But I can't remember the Clancies I read years ago. So can someone tell me if the kid would be horrified, either by intense violence or by anything event faintly like sex?

First - Welcome to burdman, whoever you may be.

Next,to sporcupine's question. I'd say that the biggest risk in kids reading adult books is not that they'll be horrified (Most kids like being horrified) but that they'll decide that adult books are boring. I can't read Clancy, because he doesn't write about stuff that interests me, and I've never been able to get more than a couple of chapters into anything he writes. (I'd probably like the video game, though.)
The first adult book a kid reads in a best of all possible reading life would either be a classic coming of age book (Like "Catcher in the Rye")or a knock-out page-turning blockbuster about power like "The Godfather", which makes adult reading look like a great adventure to embark on.
Personally, I think he would REALLY like "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime," (which is both satifyingly weird and ultimately triumphant, and is written in a teenager's first person voice).
The only book I ever read as a child that truly upset me was "Bambi."
